Private Life of Books; Guest Curator exhibition by Edward Potten
On display until end of October 2017, a new Guest Curator exhibition in Blackburn Museum’s Hart Gallery explores the Private Life of Books. Ed Potten, past Associate Director and Head of Rare Books, Cambridge University Library is currently working freelance at the museum. In this display he presents a carefully chosen selection from the Hart Collection.
Ed says “The most enjoyable aspect of working with early printed books and manuscripts is researching and uncovering the stories of their former owners and the ways in which they used and marked their books. Often the only insights we have are the marks those owners left. Happily, early book owners frequently left plenty of clues for us to work with.”
