Special events weeks are very popular as they give pupils and teachers the opportunity to immerse themselves in stimulating, hands-on activities. There are special events weeks at both Blackburn Museum and Turton Tower covering Victorian Christmas and Science Week.
A Victorian Christmas
December 2021 TBC Experienced costumed interpreters will lead your children in an exploration of the kinds of activities which a Victorian child would have taken part in during the festive season. This workshop is best suited to younger children. i.e. KS 1 and younger KS 2 pupils. Your visit will last half a day, either morning or afternoon. During that time your pupils will:
- Meet our Victorian Father Christmas and find out from him the kinds of things he carried in his sack of presents,
- Learn how to play some traditional Christmas parlour games,
- Learn how a Christmas pudding was made, stir the pudding and make their own ‘Christmas pudding’ potpourri,
- Make a Victorian Cornucopia, which we will fill with treats for the pupils as a surprise for their journey home.
